Earlier in the week, we looked at us being creatures of dust. We saw that God is the one who makes us more than dust.
The question was posed “How does it affect our participation in sport?”
God gives us life and enables us to think, learn and run as well as giving us his Spirit. He also enables us to play sport. To kick, pass, jump and sprint.
God breathes into the dust the breath of life, and the dust becomes a living being with the ability to do these things and much more.
Without God, we are just dust.
Do we forget this? Do we begin to think that we have enabled ourselves to do these things? We train hard. We get ourselves fit. We hone our skills. We eat the right foods. We make ourselves as good as I can be!
We forget that without God we are just dust.
What right do we have to boast or be prideful of these skills? How can we not observe what our bodies can do and not be amazed at our God, resulting in thanksgiving to him?
Next time you are brushing the mud or dust off your sports equipment, think about what you were and what you will once again become, then think about how your amazing, loving and generous God enables you to do the things you can do.
What a gift.
Thank you Jesus.
For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
